There is AKL-KIX-HND available, with the AKL-KIX portion being in the NZ 789, leave at 10am. Sounds good.
That being said, I feel like I've overblown this issue. I've had a chance to sleep on it and cool off, and I think I may be doing a detriment to my vacation if I take this routing.
Right now I'm leaving AKL at midnight, getting a good rest in J, and starting the Tokyo leg of my trip at 8am. The alternative is leave AKL at 10am, fly all day, get to Tokyo at 10pm and go sleep in a hotel.
Maybe I just needed to vent and get some perspective. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
