Fare difference based on direction

Sorry if this sounds dumb but can someone explain why it's almost double to travel NA - LHR r/t in premium class cabins compared to LHR - NA r/t
Specifically Toronto
All airlines J and F (if they have but most don't) seem almost double going east as the outbound
We looked at starting from JFK and that's much cheaper too. Is it a Toronto "thing" and why just with r/t flights outbound from NA ?
Going to be cheaper to one way to LHR then leapfrog back and forth with returns originating in london !!
