Like everything in life, don't believe the hype! Uber are fine - but you need to download the app onto your phone and register to use. They would certainly be quicker, but ultimately it's what you are comfortable with. If you've already booked the GatEx then that will be fine. It runs every 15 mins ( I think?) Plus you get to see the delights of East Croydon en route which is priceless.
It's more the moral issues with Uber. I'd rather pay a bit more and have a traditional black cab.
I have used Gat Ex before when using LGW (try to avoid in favour of Heathrow but not always poss). Have another Gatwick flight in Jan next year. At least the lounge is decent now!
