You'd be expected to take the train to Victoria and proceed by whatever is available. Flight delays do happen, but I think you're worrying unnecessarily. (You don't say where you live, but there will almost certainly be public transport available to get you almost all the way to areas covered by the westbound District line branches at whatever time of the night. BA is not going to voluntarily provide you with an hotel unless something extraordinary happens.)
