I think it would depend more on when and status. I'm SE (*G), and have had issued day of (actually, when I'm past security) a few times, booked on AC or UA.

Both have been good in rearranging travel, including on each others metal. UA has put me in AC J (and not some backdoor Y+forced opUP, I got the extra miles). AC hasn't done the same, but did do me direct EWR to YYZ on the last seat in the UA midget planes at what must have been a bazillion dollar seat if a civilian was paying for it.

If the flight changes a week or more before? And your FOTSG? I'd imagine you are SOL. Take what they offer, or cancel and hit up Google for something palatable.
