Remember that the miles are just a form of payment that's linked to your FB account. Once you've purchased a ticket (regardless of with cash or FF miles), you can change the FF number.
I've successfully done this numerous times by ticketing via AF or KLM, and swapping to my DL number. I've also done it by ticketing through Avianca and swapping over to my UA number. You just need to call the operating carrier (who down the line will be responsible for recognizing your FF benefits).
I was also successful every time I tried to put my DL FF on my FB award tickets including tickets even on other partner airlines such as Aerolineas Argentinas and Gol, but things seem to have changed, I was on an intra-europe award ticket earlier this year and no one was able to help me switch the my FB number (twitter, French call center, English call center, customer service at the airport) so I was unable to select seats for my flight, display correct luggage allowance, etc. Every single agent quoted an internal rule that doesn't allow to add a FQTV from another airline to award tickets.
During check-in, however, I was asked to enter my FQTV, and once I did, the system recognized me as a platinum just like a regular ticket, and got my BP with my status and SkyPriority.
