My wife charged about $18K. She got the $95 refund, extra 1K AA miles every month she charges >$1K (I think for 6 months), in same phone call. And email offer of 2 bonus miles on restaurants and supermarkets for 3 months (with some limit).
So - what is the optimal yearly charge for retention offer and bonuses ?
My guess is that there is probably not a maximum charge level, there may be a minimum charge to qualify for offers, but whether or not there is, a significant amount of randomness might be a factor. Possibly the gnomes like to see what happens when they present different offers to different populations, to fine-tune their algorithms.
