Any hope of getting into Doha on Skyteam carrier safely?

Have spent a LOT of time reading through threads and wondering if there is any "new" advice for getting from DTW to Doha in December 2017. The SkyTeam route mapper (https://applications.skyteam.com/routemapper) has been somewhat helpful but....

Followed advice on various threads to look at flights on QR - but trying to stay on Skyteam to wrangle the MQMs *and* more importantly, the connections out of DTW for Qatar Air are all on armpit AA aircraft. Ewwww.

Any advice?
