Debating between something on the coast or inland though all the kids love the beach so we would probably lean towards something on the coast. I think the only major requirement is that we would like to be walking distance from a village. I find Sicily intriguing but I hear it is unbearably hot in July.

Would be interested in hearing about anyone's experiences as I find FT is often my best source of info.
How self-sufficient are you at keeping yourself amused? Do you need lots of things to do nearby or will everyone be happy with a relaxed, laid back vacation? Do you want to eat out a lot or is making meals part of the joy.

If you're self-sufficient, there's lots of places that work. If you want to be amused, there are less and they will be more crowded.
