It's not limited to tickets you buy. As an Elite, you will gain access to Elite seating on every reservation you pull on to your account (by last name and confirmation number) no matter who is flying or who bought the ticket. One limitation is that a reservation or ticket can be pulled online only to one account, so once saved tou your account, the person who flies will not be able to see the reservation from his/her account.
