Debating between something on the coast or inland though all the kids love the beach so we would probably lean towards something on the coast. I think the only major requirement is that we would like to be walking distance from a village. I find Sicily intriguing but I hear it is unbearably hot in July.
Would be interested in hearing about anyone's experiences as I find FT is often my best source of info.
I think you're going to have to narrow it down. Italy is a big place. July is hot in Italy almost anywhere you go, so that shouldn't be decisive. Last week it was 104F in Rome, and there was a tornado in Venice. It's going to be hot. You have to decide where you want to go first, before people can suggest properties. It would also be good to know the ages of the kids, and what you all would like to do.
"The coast or inland" pretty much means anywhere. I spent a July in Palermo I think it was in 2014. There was a fairly convenient beach. I spent this July in Rome. It was just as hot, and it is not convenient to get to the beach. I think once you narrow down what part of Italy you want to visit, lots of suggestions will come.
