I just got approved for the AA platinum card. The approval letter includes bonus language for 60k miles with a spend of 3000 in 3 months. I also have an old AA platinum card with an annual fee that will post in a few days. I tried for a retention offer for the old card and got nowhere. I’m willing to pay the annual fee if I must to get the bonus, but I’d rather cancel the card and not pay the AF.

Is it safe for me to cancel the old card now before I complete the minimum spend? Can I still lose the bonus at this point because of the 24 month rule?
