If however the OTA refund policy is worse than the SPG one then it will get denied. So say the OTS offers 5 days before booking and spg 3 days it would not be comparable and thus denied.
I think what remy is saying is: compare SPG lowest rate with OTA lowest available rate. If OTA rate is lower, book SPG refundable rate to get the flexible cancellation policy. Then submit BRG claim.
With Design, same banana but you have to book the lowest rate (most likely non-refundable) in order for your to submit your brg claim. If your claim is denied, then your stuck with the non-refundable Design reservation.
Your 5 days vs 3 days cancellation policy or whatever cancellation policy has no bearing whatsoever on BRG claims
