To add to the above, HGVCs are kind of renegade-ish in that they don't really feel like any other Hilton family property -- they don't appear to use OnQ (the PMS the rest of the Hilton family uses) meaning point/stay/night credit posting can require follow-up, rooms/room quality varies wildly from property to property, etc.
Dining and suite/sundry shop-type shopping can be extravagant (HGVC near the LV Convention Center) or pathetic (Orlando Las Palmeras).
Personally if any of the midscale or higher Hilton brands (HGI+) and a HGVC were comparable in convenience and rate I'd go for the non-HGVC property without a second thought.
