I can't help but notice the dates of your reservation coincide with the total solar eclipse. Hertz is screwing around with reservations because they are so overbooked:

I agree that it is. Per the story I linked above, one lady had her reservation cancelled, but then Hertz.com was still selling new reservations for 10x the price.
