Not only that, but it looks like it's not crediting back my free-day awards like before (at least not yet) that were used in the reservation, but instead is considering them "used" even though I called in the cancellation before the reservation was to start. I think I got someone in the Philippines.

Making people call to cancel is so 1980 and definitely deserves the backlash. Those of us who can remember when EVERYTHING had to be done by phone are not eager to go back to those days.
