Checked Baggage Allowance for Mixed Status Group
Hi there,
I'm flying a bunch of KLM flights as a Delta Platinum / Skyteam Elite+.
I get (one or two?) free checked bags with my status. The other 3 persons in my traveling group do not have status.
Whenever I fly in these configurations (very often in my line of work), Delta will "extend" my baggage allowance to the rest of the party. For example, if I am given 2 checked pieces for free, they will also allow 2 free checked pieces for the rest of my group = 2 x 4 = 8 free checked pieces. This is huge, as we do indeed fly with eight large pieces checked.
I did a KLM flight yesterday where they gave me my (one or two? it wasn't clear) checked bags free, but then insisted that we pay for the remaining 6 or 7 bags. They did not extend my status allowance to the group.
Now my question is- what is the actual KLM policy here? Is it a judgment call and up to the check-in agent to decide? Is there a firm policy? What happens most often? The reason I am unsure, is that this flight yesterday was out of a very very tiny and remote airport, where all flights checked into the same counters with generic staff working all airlines. So I couldn't be sure if I was seeing a true KLM policy in action, or just something these agents made up because they were unsure.
Thanks for any / all replies!
