Would it be possible for me to short-check my luggage to BKK? Or can I only take carry-on and just get off with the other passengers?
Of course it is possible - they can't force you to fly a sector if you want to abandon your journey. People have panic attacks, illness and pressing business and family matters that require them to abandon itineraries.

I can't see the airport process as being easy, and you'd be pretty certain to lose subsequent sectors, or maintain them only after re-ticketing / repricing your journey.

But the question is why you would want to do this? If you wish to visit Bangkok, then booking a trip with a stop there would be the obvious solution.

You might be able to rebook your current journey to allow a stopover, there'd likely be a significant adjustment in price - but it's got to be cheaper and less bothersome than changing your mind once the plane reaches BKK
