I never click on links in emails like that. I just copy/paste the address into google search and click on the relevant link (phishing links will never make #1 match in Google search results).
FWIW, I clicked the ihg link above using Chrome in Incognito mode (all extensions, scripts, flash disabled) and when clicking on the info button in the URL bar it said:
Your connection to this site is not fully secure
Attackers might be able to see the images that you’re looking at on this site and trick you by modifying them.
