I'd be shocked if SDC would work. It can be very difficult to SDC one of two legs on a connecting itinerary even when there's still availability on both. When one of them is zeroed out -- and will likely remained zeroed out -- the chances are extremely slim.

Standby at IAD on the day of departure might be an option, but even that may run into the same problem.
