But you still can't touch HDD for value, not till the next generation of Chinese manufactures turn the memory business back to the historical boom to bust cycle. Wait till 2019 and there will be crazy value in SSDs


As to the OP questions, I don't carry the larger drives but a portable HDD on all my travels and so far it hasn't failed me in 18 trips to China, thru xray and everything else. Given the fact almost everyone carries a laptop and many older models still have HDD I think security is very familiar with how a HDD looks.
