Assisting DL staff onboard with crazed passengers

Fortunately, Delta has had much fewer incidents of skirmishes/belligerence on board of late. As 9/11 changed the way we look at/deal with these situations - passengers are increasingly stepping forward to help the crew.

My question is are there any legal protections for passengers who step forward to help? while I couldn't find it, I believe that a bill/legislation was passed a few years ago which provided legal protections for those who provided assistance.

Anyone remember any of this?
