I don't know if it's connected or not but I've often found that my BAEC details don't find themselves onto the boarding cards issued by Iberia anyway. So I'm not sure if status is always visible to the Iberia operations team?

Even before this current situation it is clear that the systems handshake between BA and Iberia is very very poor as many have already observed.
