Are you sure? I had a very similar event recently. My reservation was fully ticketed, but we still had two sectors cancelled and completely removed from booking.
A booking that was previously ticketd but was waiting for reissue would not cause flights to cancel out.
However a schedule change that affected minimum connecting time would auto cancel the flights so i think that is actually the more likely scenario.
I picked up change on my flights and was going to leave it for a couple of days, but then realised that my selected seat assignments may be lost and picked by someone else in meantime. I called BA and had them reinstate and fortunately managed to nab my original seats.
Curiously, the cancelled flights either side of failed mct, and not just the one that actually needed to be changed.
