This is why I hate the NYC airports. They don't have airside connections between the terminals.
Its not only NY, I find this to be the case with any US airport , eg LAX,SFO,ORD,BOS,MIA,FLL, most airports built 2 terms yrs ago 1 Intl and 1 Dom, most non-US airports didnt have the volume for domestic flights so basically they were 95%+ an Intl airport
