The reason I mentioned AS is that you can use AS on an AA award, with it remaining one award. Since AS generally has better award availability than AA, it's worth hunting for possibilities. I suggest spending time with EF and/or aa.com searching for any possible connection or route, especially if it's far enough out that schedule changes are likely.
Thanks! I am only a lowly AA Gold, so would be paying for any changes. But a schedule change could open up possibilities to add the leg for free.
In retrospect, I should have pushed harder on getting the agent to try to manually push through space on JKF-DFW (was successful on a South America award a few months ago getting MIA-DFW pushed through when no space was showing).
