International Transit in Melbourne
Hello,
first of all: Thank you for collecting all the information.
Based on the information of this topic I booked a flight from Germany via Dubai via MEL to CHC New Zealand.
I booked the flight at Qantas Airways in one ticket (all flights from Qantas) so that I can do the international transfer.
Now I had I big discussion with the Qantas support regarding the international to international transit (by the way: They offered a really good support with fast reply and finally they called me).
They told me that I do not have to check in again, but I have to pick up my luggage by myself and I need to go via the custom with my baggage. Then I can place my baggage at the custom and the custom itself organize the transfer of my bag to the airplane. And they told me: 1:20 hour transfer time is no problem because the official minimum connection time for MEL is 1 hour.
Based on your WIKI I understand that there are two options of international to international transit:
1.One ticket: Go without luggage pickup directly to the departures level following the “Transit” signs
2.Different tickets: The complete procedure => Clear immigration and quarantine and collect bags to re-checkin for the next flight
Do you have experience with international transit with Qantas Airways? I try to understand the feedback from Qantas. Or is the flight to New Zealand in the “domestic” part of Terminal 3?
Is there a third option or do I have the clear immigration and quarantine as well…
Thanks in advance
Tobias
