EC 261/2004 is clear that there is no cancellation compensation for a strike. If people "feel" it ought to be different, that is a matter for EC to take up, but the Regulation is clear on this point. Even Bott agrees on this (just take a look at the splash page of its website).
As you can imagine, all strikes are avoidable. All the employer need to is to capitulate to the demands of its employees. That facile approach has been rejected by even the most simplistic types.
Be careful too on the subject of "duty of care". Depending on your specific circumstances, that may or may not apply. The fact that this is in the future and you have not yet left for your flight makes it less likely that you will be reimbursed. If BA won't provide you with a voucher, don't take it for granted that this will be paid out.
You are free to pursue your claim, but when the preeminent bottom feeder makes it plain that these strike-related claims are losers, they are losers.
