I've got two last names like... Smith Johnson, or something

It's supposed to be with a space. United keeps the space most of the time, and it's usually a nonissue but if they don't, I ask GAs/Phone reps to remove the space, and it magically works. No one seems to care at UA, TSA, or CBP (when arriving internationally), but as mentioned upthread, hotels do and the occasional merchant does.
