GPU clears on plane that is subsequently upgauged

I'm not sure whether this belongs in a sked change thread or a GPU thread, or should stand alone, and will leave it to the mods to decide....

On Wednesday, I got an email with a ticket resync for an itinerary that I'd applied a TATL GPU and had the YVR-ORD leg waitlisted. No upgrade clearance was noted in the email, just the itinerary now showing YVR-ORD in R.

When I went to the seat map, the 737-700 for this leg was entirely booked up, and I'd been moved into the last row window seat in F. Not my favorite seat, but no complaints.

Today, I went through my bookings in search of stealth (and other) changes, and found that the YVR-ORD flight had been upgauged to a 739, with two more rows in F. Of course, there was no notification or red highlighting anywhere on my booking. I then switched to an aisle seat in the fourth row, but would likely have missed out if I'd waited until OLCI to discover the aircraft change.

My question for FT sages is did my upgrade clear on Wednesday because the plane upgauge had occurred on the backside of SHARES then, and it didn't actually show up until the weekend system update? Or was this just a coincidence?

In any case, here's another data point of why it pays to check bookings weekly after the sked changes are run if you don't have the seat you prefer, among other things.
