Friend of mine currently on EK CDG-DXB, on-ground delay of three hours while they fix engine. Will miss connection to DXB-NRT.

The HND flight will leave just a few hours after the arrival of the heavily delayed CDG flight, and had at least 7 seats available in J class (friend is on full flex biz class)

Friend calls EK number in Paris... 'no sorry, ticket purchased through travel agent, can't change your connection to HND flight', and 'you have already checked-in all the way to NRT so we cannot change now'.

Flight ex-CDG now in the air, but reviewing my friend's booking EK has protected my friend on the flight 24 hours later to NRT, not to HND as requested. Why couldn't the agent put a note in the booking for a preference for the HND flight? Or do *something*??

Really maddening when they do this, and I assume those doing the rebooking don't look for HND as well as NRT.

Anyways, I guess there will be the EU261 compensation ex Europe.
So to close out on this my friend arrived at DXB to be given a new boarding pass for the flight 24 hours later and told that a hotel would be provided plus transfers etc. End of story.

Using the info I sent my friend asked about the HND flight... 'oh, please wait'. And 15 minutes later he had boarding passes issued for HND. He said that without me messaging alternatives he would have been stuck in DXB.

Pretty poor service recovery from EK, and I can't understand why they would have someone wait 24 hours rather than arrive same day just 4 hours later.

Anyways - still putting in a claim for EU261, departed EU just over four hours late and arrived in HND more than four hours later than scheduled arrival.
