Presence of / lack of / mismatch of spaces in name on ticket or IDs? [Consolidated]

Changed my name after getting married from a McD*** name to a McC*** name. For some reason, they decided to add a space and change it to Mc C*** on my new passport. This has never happened to me with my maiden name, but some googling leads me to believe this is fairly common. I believe that I will need to change it to Mc C*** with United so that it matches GOES for precheck/Global Entry, but I'm a bit worried I'll have problems with online checkin for international flights since airlines like to smush names together and remove spaces. If United changes it back to McC*** in their passenger list, will it show as not matching to passport and prevent me from checking in online?

Any other folks with spaces randomly added to their names on their passport have any experience with this?

Thinking I might just see if the government can correct this and remove the space as I'm worried about other mis-matching issues this could cause down the line. I'll never go by Mc C*** for anything other than airlines for precheck. But maybe I'm overthinking it.
