I think they should review this policy especially when the only option on a LCC is to buy water.
I do not expect AirAsia to give out free water but do think the government is being a bit daft if they think that water from a water fountain after the final security check is in any way a threat.
Maybe if the Australian government is so concerned about the well being of its citizens of which I am one then it can provide free water (personally taste tested by some numpty bureaucrat trying to justify its job) especially when they keep banging on about staying hydrated.
They could for example knock a couple of dollars off all the taxes they collect from the airlines and require the airlines to provide 125 ml of water to each passenger to let us all know they do care about our hydration and well being rather than some not properly though trough halfarsed security measure.
No doubt some wise heads will disagree. (probably a numpty bureaucrat)
My point being they the Australian government should ban people from purchasing any liquids at Australian airports after final security check and taking them on the aircraft also. Will that happen?. No.
Either do it properly or not at all.
I agree with you, it is very inconvenience for travellers flying to USA and Australia, there will always be a final security check specially targeted for liquid. And you're right, it became even harder for budget airline flyers.
And for AirAsia, their policy was "no outside food and drinks" already, just not that firmed enforced. So I guess they will not provide any free water for flights to Australia
