Though now with EU-wide roaming, maybe that doesn't matter. If you get a good deal in a country and plan to travel to others, it may be worth the time.
This is why the T-Mobile roaming is great. There's no messing around with local SIM cards, language barriers, activation, etc. Before this change in fall 2013 I used to change out SIM cards, and I had my share of bad experiences and wasted time trying to get a SIM card to work.
