Note that if you have a RT and skip a flight, the remainder of your ticket will be cancelled. Be careful about the consequences of the decision to simply buy a different flight on another airline. If it's the last segment of your tikcket/PNR, of course you can do this as you're just throwing away the least segment. With an overnight connection, you can insist that your luggage not be checked through.
