I traveled on my own with my GF who is from Chengdu. I don't like tour guides, but it's almost a necessity to have someone who can speak Mandarin when traveling in China.
I understand that they felt more comfortable speaking Mandarin to my GF, but they shouldn't have ignored me since I was the one who booked the room. They told her everything and even asked her to sign for the room. I was able to find someone at the front desk who could speak English pretty well later, but she wasn't there when I checked in.
The living room was pretty big in my suite, but I didn't post a photo since my GF was in the shot.
