The iPad one is a bad wrapper around the website. I think the iPhone app is pretty speedy though!
It *is* dependent on network traffic for stuff like seat maps and seems reluctant to cache too much data (so it doesn't give you out-of-date info, I presume). So if you have a high-latency internet connection that might be part of the problem.
