The guy seems like many economists I've met in my trade down the years who take great pride in boasting about how much more rational they are than everyone else, and don't realise how all their human relationships suffer as a result of using an economics textbook as a manual for living.

Seems to have no understanding of what makes people tick, another example of knowing the cost of everything and the value of nothing. Sad for the crew, and another loss to customers.
