If you've researched the process and don't think an hour connection is viable, what's the point of the thread? Take a different routing, an earlier JFK departure, or a later connection from LHR.
I personally would NOT leave only 1 hour, hence I would look for a longer connection. My OP is merely being critical of the legal but tight connection.
Once I was connecting in LHR, a 5g tube of ointment in my carry-on (which was OK with US TSA) was flagged so every item in my c/o had to inspected, until an available agent appeared and the end of the inspection, 30 minutes had elapsed.
