Connecting flight in MIA 2.15 hrs- BA/AA enough time? (to merge)

Hi, I'm travelling from MAD to MTY (mexico) connecting in MIA. I have to go through customs as a foreign (lines are always really long) and only have 2 hours and 15 minutes to conect. I arrive in MIA with British Airways and depart with American Airlines.

Do I have enough time to go through customs, security and all, and still be on time to get on my flight?

I'm not sure if I also have to re-check my bags after customs or not??
