If proactive is too proactive: AC rebooking

I just wanted to share my experience from a recent AC flight. I flew TXL-YYZ-YVR the other day. TXL-YYZ (AC1967) was delayed by about 80 minutes. I was not super worried about my connection in YYZ because (1) I had 2 hours to make my connection (AC33), (2) I was in row 1, (3) I was only traveling with hand luggage, (4) I was booked in J on AC33 and (5) there were two more flights to YVR that evening. We touched down in YYZ at about 19:10 and I thought I should be able to make me connection. When I turned on my phone I had an email from AC telling me I would not be able to connect and they had rebooked me on the YVR service 1 hour later.

I went through immigration and customs and made it to the gate for AC33 where they were still boarding pax. I was not allowed to board though because I seat had been given away and there was no more availability.

While I really appreciate AC being proactive about potential misconnections this was a little too proactive. I did not complain because I was not in the mood to argue and rather spend my time relaxing in the lounge but I am curious whether others here have had similar experiences.
