Wife is booked on AA 588 on 7/28 in coach, not sure the fare since it was booked through her work, NOT basic economy though.

She currently has seat 25A selected. Seat map is showing only Preferred and MCE seats available. 25A is fine, a window seat which she prefers, but she's willing to gamble and hope for something farther forward in the cabin, or possibly MCE.

Is it possible to remove her current selection? I can't figure out a way to do it online. Then at least she would be assigned a seat at check in, and would possibly get a shot at something better.

If not, I guess I'm stuck keeping an eye on the seat map at the T-24 mark.
