First off, watch the folio for mis-postings from the Accents gift shop on the lobby level - had two pretty sizeable charges to my room folio from them, despite not ever setting foot in there. FD removed the charges after I contested them.
This is a hotel that limits the upgrade pool to try to upsell. I asked about upgrades at check-in and was denied, but was then offered a corner studio "suite" upgrade for $50/night. So that's the amount they're willing to sell out their Plat members for on upgrade benefits.
Weather was very hot in Boston during my stay. When I first got to my room, the A/C wasn't even on. Unsurprisingly, the room smelled incredibly musty/moldy, especially the bathroom. And even with the curtains drawn, the A/C could not cool my room past about 76 degrees in the daytime. With the curtains open, the A/C was even less effective.
Speaking of curtains, they don't align with the room walls well. One side had a good 4-5" gap which let tons of light in. There is also very little sound insulation from the halls, partly because the doors are pretty lightweight. So if you're at all light/noise sensitive and choose to stay here, definitely bring the eyeshades and earplugs.
The club lounge is a nice space but was very crowded even early in the morning. Breakfast was just eggs and a continental spread.
I was just there as well. Didn't have the gift shop experience, nor the club lounge, but agree with the rest you've posted. I fell for upgrading to corner king, it was tiny & oddly shaped (wasted space), one of the 2 sets of windows was blocked by big furniture, smelled awful. The only windows not blocked overlooked ugly roofs. Peaked into an empty regular room housekeeping had open, and it was much better setup. Called desk to say upgrade isn't worth the $ and see about room smell issue. Was given king corner jr suite (more on par with corner king rooms i book elsewhere). Still smelled bad, definitely musty/moldy. Couch and chair just seem old and dingy. Water damage on ceiling in entryway. Toilet flushed (barely), got it looked at twice while there. Elevators sound like they might break at any moment. Bed was good, towels were fine. The rest underwhelmed me. We thought we were treating ourselves, and all we really ended up with was somewhere to rest our heads. No "treating" about it.
Overall, this place should be so much nicer than it is. And that's a lot, coming from someone who never stays in nice hotels, usually just basic ones full service ones.
