I've been going to Vegas 3x/year for 15 years. Here's what I've gathered about the Marriott properties. Please keep in mind that for a number of these properties, I haven't stayed in them for a few years so I may not be accurate.


JW Marriott in Summerlin.

Just spent three nights there, checked out yesterday.

If you want to stay at a great property and don't need to be on Strip, stay here. Very, very nice. About a 25 minute drive from airport, never any traffic. Big rooms, big desks, comfy beds. I've been upgraded to a large double patio villa a few times which is nice, except that in the summer, it's too hot to sit outside on the patio ; and the room has a Murphy bed which ain't all that great. And no proper desk ; just a table with a few non-rolling chairs ( you can request a desk chair from housekeeping).
Rooms are well-appointing, marble floors in bathroom. Showers are huge walk-ins and the toiletries are top drawer.

In the NW area called Summerlin ( named after Howard Hughes's mother (( her maiden name)) ). Growing area, lots of amenities and shopping. Free shuttle in am to Strip and returns in early evening.

The Spa/workout area comes with room. 24 hour gym I believe, but spa area ( just refurbed sauna/steam/soaking pools area ) is great. Stumble down there for a morning steam.shower/shave to start the day.

Pool is great, by far nicest of all Marriotts. But I'm not a pool guy. Drinks and stuff, not cheap, but what you'd expect. Resort always has a few large groups in it, but it's so big that they don't overwhelm the joint like at the Ren on the Strip. Parking is free, even valet parking, but of course tip ($5ish) on pick-up. At check-in, you get a coupon booklet that has some decent deals. The Rampart casino is enjoyed by locals ( average age: 112) and I think the exhaust fans sucking up the smoke might need a tune-up. They are expanding the Sports book to add a deli. Should be a step up from what's there now. That said, I love the book. Very laid back. Blackjack and craps are always $5 which is a rare find these days. And decent pay tables on the video poker. If you're going to drop some dough gambling, call the casino ahead of time and talk to a host -- you'd be surprised on how little you have to put in play to get a free/reduced rate room.

Even if you don't gamble, this is a great property. Huge property but not overwhelming. Classic decor. Top drawer.

Las Vegas Marriott on Convention Center ( formerly Marriott Suites)
If I want to stay on Strip, I stay here. Usually has very good rates but can also ream you at convention time. This property is just off strip, a nice walk away from all the chaos. A 7 minute walk to Strip, 15 to Wynn. The immediate area will change quite a bit over the next year or so. It's right next to the Convention Center, so if there's nothing going on, you're golden. Bar used to be a lot more fun, but lead bartender Justine is no longer there. No CL, but free buffet breakfast for Plat. Really nice, efficient service staff. Tiny outdoor pool.

I usually rent a car while in Vegas, and this property has parking just a few steps from back door. So you can leave your car and be in your room in under 2 minutes. Rooms are all suites with french doors to separate bedroom from small living room with desk/couch. Decent workout area.

Chef is pretty good, but there's no nice in-house restaurant, just a coffee shop vibe restaurant -- fine by me.


Res Inn - Hughes Center
I stopped staying there about 5 years ago. Got a very spotty Wifi connection and for some unGodly reason, the place smelled like a sewer in the afternoon. Nasty. Decent pool, and walkable to a sub par casino across street. great little cleaner ( save yourself some $ ) across the street next to a donut shop. Starbucks and other eating joints nearby. Fedex there too. If you're stuck and you need a place or want to split with a colleague, this will do. It's about 1 mile to Strip -- leisurely walk or quick Uber.

Courtyard - on Paradise
your basic Courtyard. The gem in the Las Vegas metro transportation plan is the existence of Desert Inn Road, which easily connects the east side with the west side and tunnels under the Strip to avoid the busy traffic jams on Strip. it connects just outside of CY

RI on Paradise
Very basic. Very average. Have the upper loft bedroom option. Getting in/out is a little circuitous. Stayed there four years ago. Needs work.

Renaissance on Paradise
Stayed here a handful of times. Last time was probably five years ago, so not sure of updates. CL needed it then. Place always seems to be overwhelmed by a big group. Have read in this thread that there's a charge for parking. Ludicrous. It's not usual Ren standards. It's not any nicer than the Las Vegas Marriott on Convention Center Drive. A bit hard to get to from Paradise Road. Feeds from Convention Center traffic, which is a stone's throw from front doors. Cool vintage Vegas them in rooms ( Rat Pack,desert, 40s...) -- but again, that was 5 years ago.

RI/CY/FI on Dean Martin ( I think )
Standard properties. free shuttles to Strip every 20-30 minutes.

Cosmopolitan
Probably the hottest hotel in Vegas, next to Wynn. Have stayed here twice. Very nice, but still a little too hip for my taste. Stayed here maybe 4 years ago. I think I was told they had a special concierge lounge that opened at 2 and the booze was free? Can't imagine that. But I'm pretty sure I heard that right. Rooms are very nice, all good views. But $$$$. I think all parking is valet -- they might be charging these days. Check that. But the valet parking is great. It's like waiting in a doctor's office for your car. All in lower floor of parking garage. More stuff on Cosmo in this thread. Don't listen to me.

Chateaux
If you have kids, check this one out. Bedrooms are nice. The 3-bedroom option is a stunner. But it's a vacation property so they don't care if your Plat or it's a first-time stay, at least that's my read. They tinkered with lobby area to offer more stuff. Parking was still valet and free two years ago. It's across the street from the side entrance to the Planet Hollywood shops. So an easy walk to Strip. I think all the rooms have near full kitchens -- it's like RI on steroids. Small pool on roof is cool, pretty small and not exactly a pool for kids. Nice property.

SPH on Paradise ( across from Hilton/Westgate)
One night, several years ago. Franchise property that screams "franchise property." Pass.
