I've never used easycar, but have heard some mixed reports about them, especially with regard to over-zealous surcharging of the cars for things such as scratched hub caps. The cars also have a big orange sticker on the side advertising the fact they're rental cars, so they may feel happier using one of the mainstream companies.
Is this related to the company or the location, I ask because the only times in my life I have been charged for damage to a rental car have been in the UK, each time I return a car they get the magnifyng glass out and look it over like they are buying it. As a contrast I rent at LAX almost monthly and have never had anybody give the car more than a glance and have never been charged for any sort of damage, and I did not purchase insurance for any of thise rentals.
