The walk is horrible. And there are sketchy food vendors under the highway, to boot, which I've never understood. Who would eat food from there? (Maybe gone now as part of the crackdown?) Despite the sidewalks being uneven and in need of repair, I do that walk, versus walking to the other station, because I am usually going in that direction.
The horrible walk to the BTS is one of the many reasons I avoid the JW over the other Marriott properties in Bangkok, along with the small dated rooms, the bad bathrooms, etc. Obviously the hotel has its fans, but if you read through this thread you'll find there aren't many here.
