On site amenities:
Pool- the pool is gorgeous. I believe it is the largest pool in the country. They have tons of seating. The infinity edge is perfectly suited for just hanging out and watching the beach as well as the many butterflies, hummingbirds and lizards that visit the planters around the pool.
Beach- immediately in front of the pool is very rocky, you'd want beach shoes to wade in. Walk right 2 minutes and there's a sandy area where you can wade out then begin swimming although it is still too rocky that I would be comfortable body surfing or boogie boarding. For that go to the beach club or walk about ten minutes to the left.
There is a free shuttle to the beach club on the hour. Call ahead to reserve a spot. Bring towels and cash or a credit card, because while JW guests have access to the pool and beach chairs you cannot charge anything to your room.
Hacienda Pinalla, the private land the resort is located on also has mountain bike trails with bikes you can rent on site, golf, horse back riding, and zip lining. We did not get a chance to try any of these.
