That logic implies that without award ticket one would go and buy revenue ticket in Business which obviously is far away from reality. Using the same logic one can say that using bus/public transportation one saves $2000/mo because he/she does not lease Mercedes S class. But you are not obligated to lease Mercedes S class - there are plenty of other alternative options available.

SIN-TPE-SIN route you've mentioned one can buy roundtrip flights on budget airlines here in Singapore for SGD $200 (USD $140) return. If you don't believe me check Jetstar's website and select Aug 18 departure and Aug 22nd - return.

So for me ticket value is not S$1281, but rather $200. Why do I need to pay $1281 for something I can get for $200?
Well, for one thing, the in-flight experience on SQ is much different than the experience on 3K. By your logic, no-one should ever drive an S class because they could purchase a Hyundai Accent instead. Furthermore, using that same argument, why would you redeem your miles for business class -- your original question -- when you could use fewer miles and redeem for coach?

More to the point, though -- Jetstar isn't offering you a stopover in Seoul. (In fact, they don't even fly there). The Excursionist Perk, while not as valuable as the old stopover policy, can still get you a free one-way flight, and one-way flights can be extremely expensive.

Anyway, even if you don't like my example, I stand by my advice: the miles are getting less valuable in your account as time goes by. Refusing to redeem them because of a preconceived notion of their value will effectively make them worthless. Whenever you consider a trip, compare the price you'd pay in cash to the number of miles needed and make an educated decision.

After all, if I were to tell you that the most valuable redemption available is a one way ticket to New Caledonia, but you don't want to go to New Caledonia, then it's not all that valuable for you, is it?
