Not sure whereon the west coast you are but Avios availability in F and J is better on the TX routes than CA routes (SEA and YVR tend to be better).
Availability isn't great but I would say its certainly better than AA and UA's non-stops from DFW and IAH. That said, the downsides are of course the YQ charges and BA's lousy J cabin.
