April, especially early April, is still winter in Iceland, so make sure you check forecasts at night before you go to bed and again in the morning to make sure there are no storms that may adversely affect your plans. Arctic winter storms are no joke, we learned a valuable lesson a few winters ago about that in Iceland and will never plan a self drive winter visit again there.
